Photos I’d taken of Moorish Idols inspired this painting of these fish cleaning brain coral, a reef builder that protects shorelines from the warming seas. Scientists grow and transplant brain coral off Florida to restore bleaching reefs. Sometimes a small wonder—a fish, a flower, a flicker of light—reminds us how deeply everything connects. Each act of noticing is an act of care.
