Windswept Hibiscus
The flowers portrayed here are Hibiscus. One strain of yellow hibiscus is the Hawai‘i state flower. Although each bloom lasts but a day, they’re known for more than their beauty alone. The hibiscus can be a source of food, tea, fibers, wood, dyes, perfumes, and medicines.
A bit abstract in nature, these hibiscus are being tossed about by the trade winds that we love so much in the islands. The winds mean our humidity is low and they keep the ualena showers passing quickly, giving us much needed rains without depriving us of the sun. It rains somewhere in the islands everyday, usually not too much but just enough to keep us cool and watered.
Movement is an indication of life and a good way to keep our emotional life sunny — like these flowers. Have you taken the time to move your body today? Regular movement keeps us supple and healthy. We don’t have to move erratically as though buffeted by winds, but it does a body good to move everyday. Movement can be considered a necessary nutrient for a happy, healthy life.
