I taught a Hide-N-Seek Watercolor Workshop in Denver in 2014 and this painting was one of the results of that experience. I was surprised when, as I flew into Denver, I felt the urge to paint aspen trees. I’d never before considered painting these trees and suddenly it was the only thing I wanted to paint.

Aspens grow in cold climates with cool summers. They grow in colonies, with each individual tree coming from one parent tree. The individual trees can live 40-150 years, while the entire root system can live for thousands of years.

This painting serves to remind us that we too are connected to many more people than we see each day. Some of us are far from our home of origin. We always carry our home within our heart.
