The flowers portrayed in this piece are Obake Anthurium. “Obake” means ghost in Japanese; the flowing shape is reminiscent of that of a ghost. Introduced in Hawai‘i in 1889, these long-lasting, heart-shaped plants are a mainstay of the Hawaiian cut-flower industry.

Our lives are made up of intersections and interconnections, some so minute we hardly notice them. Yet they’re vital to the fabric of our being.
